wampus rolls out acoustic disc from neil luckett

Wampus Multimedia announces the release of Radio for Cats, the beguiling new acoustic disc from London-based songwriter Neil Luckett.

Long an admirer of 1960s folk guitarists Bert Jansch, John Renbourn, Davy Graham, and Nick Drake, Luckett put his modern-rock trio, tvfordogs, on hold to create an all-acoustic set of his best songs. Radio for Cats is no mere "tvfordogs unplugged," however. It's a reimagining, a reinvention, and its songs shimmer in new arrangements built around Luckett's rich acoustic guitar.

"These recordings capture the songs as they began," says Luckett, "with me playing an acoustic guitar and singing the basic melodies. I wanted to document versions of songs I was playing solo when the other guys couldn't make gigs. These versions differ little in structure from the originals, but sometimes the keys are different and the album is predominantly in open G. The acoustic versions of 'Capsule Wardrobe' and 'Sweet Nothings' stand up to their rock counterparts."

Produced by Luckett in London with Oliver Goodall, Radio for Cats joins a Wampus Multimedia roster that includes recent releases from Cafebar 401, Casey Abrams, Arms of Kismet, Johnny J Blair, tvfordogs, and Alice Despard, as well as Hurry Home Early: the Songs of Warren Zevon, to which Luckett contributed a version of Zevon's "Mutineer." A skilled interpreter of the work of other artists, Luckett joined tvfordogs for a cover of "How Do You Think It Feels" on 2003's After Hours: a Tribute to the Music of Lou Reed.

Radio for Cats is available at Amazon, CD Baby, iTunes, and other fine stores.
