wampus signs the netherlands' cafebar 401

Wampus Multimedia has signed Dutch recording artists Cafebar 401. The U.S.-based indie label will release the band's debut single, "I Need to Know," this fall, and follow it with a full-length CD in early 2004. Brimming with darkly sweet pop hooks, Cafebar 401's music blends Bowie-esque vocal presence with danceable grooves firmly rooted in Euro-rock. Currently setting the Dutch pop scene tunefully ablaze, the band has appeared recently on Dutch national television and radio.

Depending on the song, their sound calls to mind Coldplay, Masters of Reality, Muse, Beck, Soulwax, Radiohead, and Queens of the Stone Age, but Cafebar 401 brings something else entirely of their own to the party. Don't miss it.

tvfordogs Hits U.S. Alternative Specialty Charts

Wampus Multimedia artist tvfordogs has hit the U.S. alternative specialty charts for both single ("Patient Pilgrim") and album (Heavy Denver). Both charted the week of March 3 after an aggressive promotional campaign.

"Heavy Denver is strongly reminiscent of the Foo Fighters' The Colour and the Shape. Since I think that particular album is one of the most dramatically underrated rock albums of the last several years, you can imagine I'm pretty pleased with what's coming out of my headphones right now." --John Scalzi, IndieCrit

"Unlike most rock, which has all the depth of a one-trick pony, tvfordogs, like the best rock bands past and present, shifts gears and blends songs in a way that not only puts the individual songs in best relief, but takes the listener on a journey." --Mark Kirby, MusicDish

Arms of Kismet Rolls Out "Sail Seven"

Wampus Multimedia artist Arms of Kismet has released "Sail Seven," a sneak-peek from its coming-in-2004 CD, Eponymous. The track is appearing for a limited time at mp3.com. Behind a wave of pianos and guitars, it ponders the complicated human impulse to explore frontiers -- given recent events, maybe you can't live with it and you can't live without it. Maybe there's a fine line between curiosity and imperialism.

Wampus recently placed the Arms of Kismet song "Cuckold of Titan" in the upcoming independent surf film, Sol Sirens.

Wampus Postpones Deadline for Warren Zevon Tribute CD

Wampus Multimedia has postponed the deadline for submissions to its Warren Zevon tribute to November 30.

Following the label's other tribute CDs, If I Were a Richman: a Tribute to the Music of Jonathan Richman (2001), and After Hours: a Tribute to the Music of Lou Reed (April 2003), the compilation will feature selections from throughout Zevon's reign as rock's most acerbic troubadour and cynical romantic. Wampus will donate one dollar from the sale of each Zevon CD to the American Cancer Society.

Get the Good Stuff: Irresistible Releases from Wampus

http://www.cdstreet.com/cgi-bin/artist_products.cgi?1236010&&

tvfordogs / Heavy Denver

The best modern-rock record of the year -- hear it for yourself.

Amateur God / Near Life Experience

Dark gothic-semi-vocal-ambient music in the tradition of Mylene Farmer, All About Eve, Celtic Frost, Type O Negative, Sisters of Mercy, The Gathering, Jean Michel Jarre, Orbital, Front 242, Rammstein, Art of Noise, and Voivod.

Various Artists / If I Were a Richman: a Tribute to the Music of Jonathan Richman

A wildly entertaining ride through the repertoire of one of rock's most original and eclectic songwriters. Like Lou Reed & the Velvet Underground before him, Richman's deceptively straightforward music defies easy categorization. From his early days with the original Modern Lovers, through numerous iterations of the Lovers, to his latter-day solo career, Richman's work has mixed an arresting sense of innocence with a deep sensitivity to human emotion.

Various Artists / Glass Flesh 2: a Tribute to Robyn Hitchcock

Twenty-one great ways to skin Robyn Hitchcock's cat. Indispensable.

Wampeters / Murder Your Darlings

D.C. post-modernists reinvent the contrarian rock sensibility. Smoldering chamber rock descended from the Band, the Beatles, and the Beach Boys. "A great narrative album. The last great mainstream release that exemplifies this method of development of style and sound is Wilco's Summer Teeth." --Heidi Drockelman, IndieMusic.com

Kowtow Popof / Eat My Dust

Tenacious tunesmith serves up explosive pop 'n' roll. Unparalleled lyrics, unforgettable hooks. Graham Parker as T-Rex. "Preternaturally surrealist post-pop." --Eve Zibart, The Washington Post

Arms of Kismet / unreleased tracks

It's postmodern rock for the savvy, ironic streetcrawler. Check out tracks from next year's debut Arms of Kismet CD, including the new "Sail Seven."

Mark Doyon / Bonneville Stories

Crisp fiction from Arms of Kismet's Mark Doyon that's as dark as optimism gets. "A brilliant collection of beautifully written stories that made me cringe, grimace, and laugh, while sometimes moving me to great pity.... There just aren't any flaws here, and I can't possibly do this book justice in a review. No one could, really...." --Laurie Edwards, CultureDose.com
